SCIENTIFIC EXPERIENCE

• 07/2022-present, PhD Student, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece

  Duties: Design and development of bioinformatics algorithms focused on the deconvolution and disambiguation of low-frequency somatic variants in human DNA through Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data. Additionally, employed synthetic data generation techniques and mathematical modeling to simulate and analyze biological processes, to achieve valuable insights of the behavior of biological systems.

• 09/2020-09/2021, Master Student, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

  Duties: Software development for the purposes of master thesis in collaboration with Gravitational Waves Group, AUTh led by Nikolaos Stergioulas which consisted of members from the departments of Informatics and Physics from AUTh and the department of Physics from UoA.

FELLOWSHIPS AND AWARDS

• Recieved travel funding by the International Society for Computational Biology to present a poster with title Synth4bench: generating synthetic genomics data for the evaluation of somatic variant callers at the ECCB2024 conference in Turku, Finland, 16-20/09/2024.
• Invited attendee position to participate in BioHackathon2023 as one of the leads for Project 2 in Barcelona, Spain for the period 31/10/2023-01/11/2023. All travel expenses and accommodation covered by ELIXIR.

• 19/05/2025 - 23/05/2025 Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Life Sciences, Aussois, Savoie (73), France

  Learners will be guided across the various steps in Machine Learning, from the foundational concepts, through the deep learning and generative AI techniques, closely complemented by insights into the existing reporting (DOME Recommendations) and regulatory frameworks (EU AI Act). This week-long training will bring together experts from four ELIXIR Nodes and deliver a hands-on, high-intensity course available for members from all ELIXIR Nodes. For more details visit here.

• 22/01/2024 - 26/01/2024 Exploratory analysis of biological data: data carpentry, EMBL Advanced Training Centre, Heidelberg and Virtual

  Helper duties for this hands-on workshop about teaching researchers the fundamental data skills they need to conduct their work and providing high-quality, domain-specific training covering the full lifecycle of data-driven research. • 28/11/2022 - 1/12/2022 WES / WGS data analysis, Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), Belgrade, Serbia

  A training workshop in Bioinformatics which focused on germline small variant calling, larger variant calling – CNV pipeline, Genome Wide Association Studies and Common Workflow Language and Docker. The pipeline which I taught was that of somatic copy number variation calling using the CNVkit. Course Materials

• Active involvement in the co-supervision of a Master Thesis titled Generative methods in bioinformatics: the use case of synthetic genomics data, for the PostGraduate program “Applied Bioinformatics & Data Analysis” of Democritus University of Thrace.
